STOP 1 : BODBE MONASTERY:

“The Monastery of St. Nino at Bodbe  is a Georgian Orthodox monastic complex and the seat of the Bishops of Bodbe located 2 km from the town of Sighnaghi, Kakheti, Georgia. Originally built in the 9th century, it has been significantly remodeled, especially in the 17th century. The extant church – a three-nave basilica with three protruding apses – was  riginally built between the 9th and 11th centuries.”

STOP 2 : SIGHNAGHI CITY / MUSEUM:

“Due to its special and unique architecture and natural location Sighnaghi, pearl of Kakheti region (110km from Tbilisi), is one of the most beautiful small towns in Georgia. Built 790 meters above the sea level, it overlooks the most beautiful landscape of Alazani Valley and Caucasus Mountains. It was recently restored under government project but 200-year old view is still preserved.

The wall, houses built with Georgian bricks, wooden fretwork balconies, cobblestone pavements, wine cellars, basements and of course the inimitable views produce an unforgettable impression upon the visitors of the town.”

STOP 3 : GURJAANI KVELATSMINDA CHURCH:

“The Gurjaani Kvelatsminda Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God (literally, "the holiest of Gurjaani") is a Georgian Orthodox church constructed in the 8th or 9th century, during the "transitional period" in the medieval Georgian architecture. It is located in the town of Gurjaani in Georgia's easternmost region of Kakheti. The Gurjaani church is the only extant example of a two-dome church design in the territory of Georgia."

STOP 4 : KVARELI / NEKRESI CHURCH:

“Nekresi (Georgian: ნეკრესი) is a historic town in Kakheti, Georgia, in modern-day Kvareli Municipality, near the village of Shilda. The town was established by king Pharnajom (around 2nd-1st centuries BC). In the 4th century AD, king Thrdat built a church in this place. This church became a refuge to one of the Assyrian fathers, Abibus, in the late 6th century. Around this time Diocese of Nekresi was established, which existed until the 19th century. The church was recently restored, stone masonry repaired, roof rebuilt, windows put in place.”

STOP 5 : KHAREBA WINERY:

“What's special here is the 7.7km of wine tunnels, dug out of a hillside in the early 1960s for storing and ageing wine at constant temperatures. Today the tunnels store over 25,000 bottles of the Khareba company's European and qvevri wines. Tours go into part of the tunnels (where tastings also take place) then up to the viewing tower and restaurant. Here you will taste Georgian wine and enjoy local food”
